A Little Help With Junk Mail Please
Well I finally did something I talked about for a long time, I took a stand against junk mail. Now I realize that some people like the catalogs and special offers you get in your box every day, but I don’t. I’m not trying to put a wet blanket over the whole junk mail industry which touts numbers like 1.3 trillion dollars in sales revenue, I just don’t want it. I actually believe that just because I buy something from a store that lists things on Ebay, that store doesn’t have the right to start sending me catalogs. I also don’t like the fact that the dealership I bought my car from sends me service offers and prints the VIN number of my car on it. I really don’t like that when I call them to be removed from their list they tell me “We don’t have you on a mailing list”, “Really, because it has a coupon for your dealership on it” I reply. Crazy! At what point did we switch from having to do something to get a product to now we have to do something to stop getting products. I guess the next step will be companies sending you their products at will and IF, you don’t return them, you get billed. Your going to be a consumer even if you don’t want to be.
So, the thing I finally did is, I started a petition with the White House which, if passed will require bulk mailing companies to have some was of letting us, the consumer, opt out of future mailings. You get a catalog you don’t want, call the 800 number listed on the piece and they can’t mail you junk again. I actually thought something like this was already in place but that only applies to financial offers, not all junk mail. So take a step with me and sign the petition, lets see if we can actually change something.
